Did you know something so beautiful could be found in the middle of Los Angeles.

Being a young adult today, having extra money to spend, or time off is not something that comes easily…  That becomes an issue when all you want to do is explore!! I find myself scrolling through my Instagram, or Facebook feeds before bed and looking all these amazing pictures from all over the world and longing for adventure! But traveling is a lot easier said then done. Not everyone can toss their responsibilities aside and just go. And with the cost of airfare these days, your going to need a job just to pay for your ticket! So if, quitting your job, selling your belongings, and living out of a backpack isn’t a realistic path for you, here is an adventure you can take that will make you forget all about that traffic jam you were just stuck in.

Located in the San Gabriel mountains is Switzer Falls. One of the best waterfall hikes in southern California.  A 6.8mile hike, Switzer Falls is one of the more popular hikes in Southern California. The first section of the trail is paved, and has several picnic areas to enjoy. The pavement doesn’t last long though. Soon your along a beautiful stream, hopping over boulders, and ascending to an elevation gain of 689 ft.  Resulting in some breathtaking views along the canyon wall. Surrounded by beautiful mountain ridges it’s hard to believe your in LA!

With moderate trail difficulty, its a hike almost anyone can enjoy. I struggle with many mobility issues, and I found this hike very doable for anyone with physical limitations. With California currently in a dangerous drought, what once used to be full and flowing with pools to jump in, it is now not much more than a watering hole. But none the less, still beautiful. You may not get to dive in but a quick dunk under the falls will do the trick.

It is also a great hike to bring along your furry friends! Along the trail we encountered many people who had their dogs with them. As did I, and I think Ty (my dog) had more fun then any of us!

I found Switzer Falls to be an excellent adventure spot to get outside and hit the refresh button. A Perfect way to break up your work week.

Now days, we get so caught up in the hustle of life it is easy to overlook the beauty around us.

So get out and explore!

And hug a tree or two along the way.
